Dear Colleagues:

Thank you for your feedback during the Great Place: HR Redesign policy open comment period. As you know, HR Redesign committee members spent the last several months researching best practices at our peer institutions and other large employers in an effort to design a new HR plan for VCU. Our goal remains to modernize our HR practices and make VCU an even greater place to work.

We received nearly 900 comments during the open comment period. The comments were forwarded to the HR Redesign committees and the policy draft is now being revised based on the information you shared. I invite you to read a summary of the open comment processincluding the demographics of those who responded and themes that emerged from the comments. University Council will review recommended policy changes before a report is made to the Board of Visitors next month. A full report of all the comments and questions received is in development and will be posted prior to final policy approval. VCU Human Resources will then begin developing procedures and guidelines to implement the policy and to prepare for its expected January 2018 effective date.

Though the policy open comment period is now closed, you may continue to submit questions about the draft policy and the redesign process on the FAQ Page. I encourage you to check this page frequently, as new questions and answers are posted here regularly. Thank you for your involvement in this important initiative and for making VCU a great place to live, learn and work.

All my best,
Cathleen C. Burke
